Feature Wall Ideas
Creating a feature wall is one way to add personality to your living room or bedroom. This article explores a variety of feature wall ideas. Since a lot of rooms can be very square and bland, using paint, paper or designs on one wall makes an attractive focal point within the room. Choose from one of our handmade sofas in a lighter colour and place it in front of a brightly coloured wall or use paintings, pictures or wall stickers to draw attention to a particular wall in your living room. Here are some tips to create the perfect feature wall in your home.
Using Colour to Create a Feature Wall
Perhaps you want to make a room more contemporary or update a room with minimal costs. One way to achieve this is to change one wall in the room and leave the other three walls as they are. Using a bright, block colour on one wall can be ideal to place plain coloured sofas against. For those who have leather sofas in a colour like black, brown or cream, a feature wall may make the sofa stand out more. Black and cream are neutral colours and will match just about any colour of the feature wall therefore there is some room to experiment.
If you want a more dramatic effect, choose a colour which contrasts with your sofa. Pick out colours which are opposite from each other on a colour wheel. Lighter colours for a feature wall will create more space which is great for smaller rooms. A darker wall colour will bring the wall in closer resulting in the illusion of a smaller room.
You can also pick out bold wallpaper for one wall which may be slightly hard on the eyes if used in the whole room. Gold and silver wallpapers are great for those with plain coloured leather sofas as they reflect the light drawing attention to the area. Gold is particularly effective for black, brown or tan-coloured sofas.
Using Wall Stickers or Pictures
Another inexpensive way to dramatically change a room using a feature wall is to use wall stickers. These can be bought from any good home store and come in a variety of designs, colours and styles. Using this method, you can keep the original colours of your room but stick some images or designs on top to create an eye catching scene. The best thing is, that they can be peeled off and re-applied whenever you fancy a change or if you make a mistake. Choose larger stickers and frame them around your sofa or add lots of different-sized stickers in various colours if you’re feeling brave. They do not have to be in contrasting colours to your base colour but it helps.
If you are adding pictures or paintings, add lots of different sizes in a random pattern to create a contemporary, abstract look. Adding one large, interesting painting or a stand-out mirror can also draw attention to this area of your living room. This is great if you have high ceilings and want to fill up wall space above a sofa.
