Doing it Scandi Style
Whilst we at Darlings of Chelsea are proud of our British heritage and the high-quality craftsmanship that goes into our British-made furniture, we can’t help but be a fan of another European area’s style when it comes to interior design. Scandinavian style has long been a popular choice for home decor and it’s not hard to see why. With its clean, crisp lines, and simple but sophisticated look, it brings a sleek, chic but often surprisingly warm feel to your living space. It’s a trend that shows up in style guides, blogs and magazines time and again. You can even see elements of the style in some of the photos from our recent photoshoot, such as the one above of the gorgeous Elena Sofa. So today we look at how to give your space that swish Scandi style.

A key element of this style of design scheme is an abundance of natural materials. Stone, leather and wool are used a fair bit, but one thing you’ll tend to see over and above anything else is wood. Wood panelling and flooring is often popular, but also wood furniture tends to feature heavily. This gives a room a warm, organic feel, inspired by the beauty of nature.
Colour

Think white walls with muted tones – greys, blues, dusky pink. This is generally the type of colour palette you’ll see in such a scheme, although monochrome can also work well. Generally you’ll want to steer clear of bright, pop-pastel type shades. However, to give your Scandi style space a modern twist, a small amount of a bright accent colour can look great and still maintain the overall ethos of the look you’re going for.
Scandi Style Furniture and Furnishings

The layout and look of the space should be functional and uncluttered, with clean lines and not too many accessories (but don’t worry, this needn’t look cold). Mid-century modern furniture is very popular amongst the nordic set and really suits this style of decor. Although some favourites may include more modern, man-made materials, such as the plastic or fibreglass seen in the much-loved Eames chairs, these are used in such a way that they look right at home amongst the otherwise natural-based materials and textures.
This kind of look is really easy to introduce into your home and is a great way of giving your space a fresh, modern and elegant update. Alternatively you can incorporate many of the key elements into your own style to give it a sleek, chic refresh. Either way, we think you’re bound to love the look!
