Spice up your Kitchen!
For many years the humble kitchen was a place merely of function. Food was kept there and meals were prepared there. Apart from meeting those requirements and looking tidy, little thought was given to this room’s style. But as time and the design world move on, the kitchen has become more and more important, often being a focal point within the home, and the look and design of this space has been given more and more consideration. And if you’re looking to move your kitchen on from a simple, functional style to having a flair and personality, we have a few suggestions for you.
Furniture Over Function
As people reassess the kitchen’s place in the home and it moves from being purely functional to having aesthetic value as well, design elements from the rest of the house have made their way into the space. These include things like statement pieces of furniture, units with feet (as might be found on furniture in other parts of the home), and accessories such as wall hangings and rugs.
Giving Walls the ‘Wow’ Factor
Whilst paint and tiles have been standard finishes for kitchen walls in the past, wallpaper has found its way into the kitchen and is becoming increasingly popular. From subtle designs to bold prints, you can create a chic modern look that will echo the overall look of home, or stand out and make a style statement. It’s a great way to give your kitchen some character and create a visual impact on the space.
Exciting Lighting
It’s time to move on from ceiling LED spotlights! Statement lighting is becoming a big feature in many areas of the home, including the kitchen. Get creative and consider more interesting looks for your lighting, such as a big bold light fitting or a cluster of chic pendant lamps.
Going for Gold
Copper, Bronze and Gold have been proving popular for accessories throughout the home in recent seasons, but particularly in the fixtures and fittings in the kitchen. These metal finishes can give you a fresh, modern look and they are great to accessorise with.
Modern Meets Traditional
Moving away from the futuristic, sometimes soulless look of ultra-modern designs, people are recognising the importance of the kitchen as a hub within the home and therefore are looking to make it more homely. This means combining some sleek, clean modern appliances and elements with more traditional design features such as antique-styled straight bow handles and more natural materials to give the space a slightly more rustic feel.
