Get the Look: Industrial Interiors

By Darlings Of Chelsea

The industrial look has been growing in popularity for some time now. It’s striped back, ‘bare bones’ style gives a space a really modern, chic feel. It’s a style that is incredibly sophisticated in its simplicity and can range from shabby-chic grunge to clean and functional. Today we look at how you can create this hard-working design in your home.

Industrial Space

This look takes its cues from warehouses and factories, having grown out of many such buildings being converted into apartments in recent times. To achieve this in your home take your walls back to their bare brick and make use of wooden or concrete floors that already exist. If you can expose pipes and ventilation systems, that would help to take the overall aesthetic further. Steel fixtures and fittings, or something similar, can help finish things off.

This is another area where the ‘striped back’ approach is key. Bare light bulbs is one way to go, and depending on how and where you hang them can work really well. If you’d prefer some form of lightshade, you could look at options with glass box shades. These still have that very simple, functional, clean lines look that works well with this kind of design scheme.

Just because the industrial look has an unpolished edge, it doesn’t mean your furnishings can’t be stylish or cosy. And whilst more masculine colour schemes and furniture can seem like the obvious choice for such a design scheme, and they do generally look great, using softer elements can create a really interesting contrast. Try our Upper Class Plantation rug in Sand to add some sumptuous texture to the space. Also, focus on natural materials like leather and wood, as these tend to fit this look particularly well.
