London Design Festival: Highlights So Far

By Darlings Of Chelsea

London is certainly having a big week this week. The Rugby World Cup, London Fashion Week and, of course, the London Design Festival. Taking place from 19th to 27th September, this annual celebration of the best in new and upcoming design looks at the most chic, most innovative, most exciting creations currently being made. So we have collected together the best snippets from around social media to give you a little snapshot of what’s been happening at #LDF15 so far.

London Design Festival Installations

This year’s installation pieces are pretty spectacular, as you’d expect. Some of the best include Zotem by London-based Norwegian designer Kim Thomé (in Partnership with Swarovski) and The Tower of Babel by Barnaby Barford, both at the V&A Museum, Heartbeat, the incredible balloon based installation by Charles Pétillon that has been running in Covent Garden since August and A Bullet from a Shooting Star by Alex Chinneck at the Greenwich Peninsula.

Luxury

‘Luxury’ is being examined closely at this year’s festival, with the Craft Council’s ‘What is Luxury?’ exhibition currently running at the V&A, Anna Lomax’s ‘Luxury Goods’ exhibition at KK Outlet, and Decorex’s luxury trade show Future Luxury, which is now in it’s 38th year!

Colours

Colour is, of course, a big important feature of design. And there’s plenty of bright colours around this year’s festival. So to close this post with a bit of fun, here’s just a splash of the colourful sights on offer at this year’s Design Festival.

I think Sir John Sorrell put it best, in his speech this morning:

“The sheer joy & creative power of brilliant design enhances our lives & makes the world a better place.”
