Make Your Dining Room Delicious!

By Darlings Of Chelsea

The dining room is one of the most important rooms in the house. It’s the place where we gather with friends and family for a good meal. Whether it’s used sporadically for special occasions or daily family dinner times, it’s a key area of the home. A place to enjoy good food, talk over important things, share our days and make the most of good company. So you want a dining room that suits your lifestyle and interior style. Today we look at some of the best design schemes to give your dining room true style and definition.

A great relaxed, contemporary look for the dining room is to emulate that cool, laid back look of some funky, modern cafes. Have a bit of fun with this and go a little boho chic by mismatching your chairs – try and keep to a certain style, but feel free to simply choose whatever ones you really like, as this will give it a more comfortable, authentic feel. Accessories, crockery and glassware can also be approached with the same thinking. If you really try to just imprint you into the design, you’ll be surprised how cohesive it will look.

Modernised Mealtimes

For an ultra-modern look, you’ll want to focus on smooth, clean lines with highly stylised, trendy furniture. Don’t over clutter the space, but you don’t need to go as spartan as a minimalist design scheme would demand. Statement pieces will really finish the room off – the dining table or the lighting offer the best, most effective options in this space. Perhaps consider a large, eye-catching table, or you could try a lighting arrangement featuring a combination of glass shades, such as those in our upcoming Ebb and Flow range.

Think Traditional

Classic designs are ‘classics’ for a reason. Their chic style never looks outdated or unfashionable. For the dining room, you can’t go wrong with a regal Victorian based design or the more rustic French Country look.

Hotel style

Feel like you’re always on holiday with a luxurious dining room that looks straight out of a top resort hotel. For this look you’ll want to choose chairs (and possibly sofas or benches) that combine laid-back comfort with sumptuous luxury. This scheme works particularly well in a dining area that forms part of an open-plan living space, as the free-flowing feel of the room emulates the relaxed, spacious design of hotels with vast dining rooms that stretch out onto poolside terraces.

Minimalist

Keep things simple. Table, chairs, light, plates, glass and cutlery. Perhaps a rug to keep the room a little warmer. White is the key here, although that doesn’t mean you have to completely exclude all colour, but only use it where it’s entirely necessary. This is a really ultra-stylish look, perfect for those who love functional design. But it’s almost obsessive tidiness and anti-clutter ethos means it may not be the best fit for family home.
