Sofa Time: Great Movies to Look Out for this April
There is nothing better than settling back into the sofa and immersing yourself in a great movie, is there? If you are short on inspiration this month, don’t worry – there are some great new movies on their way to the cinema and due out on DVD/BluRay as well. Here we check out some of the highlights.
Child 44
Child 44 hits the cinema screens this month. Look out for the movies trailer for this film set in the Soviet Union when Stalin was around. Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman appear and it is all set to hit screens on 17th April. It’s a dark film focusing on child murders investigated by a security officer who supports the Stalin regime. However it looks to be a dark and absorbing drama.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
If you want a real slice of action hero fare among the movies released in April, this film makes it onto the silver screen on the 23rd. Robert Downey Jr is back as Tony Stark aka Iron Man, and he is joined by the likes of Thor, Captain America, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver among others. An attempt at peacekeeping is met with disaster as the evil Ultron tries to take control.
Interstellar
This DVD/BluRay release came out on 30th March so it’s available right now. Highly-rated and created by the Nolan brothers, it stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway in a story about a team of explorers who try to save humanity by going through a wormhole. Make sure you’re comfy before it starts as you won’t want to move!
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Sofa time will also be well-spent if you choose this film, which comes out on 20th April. The final instalment in the three-part series, it’s a must for Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans to get their teeth into. Bilbo and his friends try to protect the Lonely Mountain in this ‘defining chapter’ of the story.
American Sniper
The release date for American Sniper has yet to be confirmed, but it looks as though you’ll have to wait until 1st June for this one. The Oscar-winning film was nominated in six categories in total, including a nomination for actor Bradley Cooper. He plays Chris Kyle, the most famous sniper in American military history. The biographical movie also takes in his adjustment to normal life after the war.
Big Hero 6
This is one for kids of all ages, as Disney gets to grips with a story about an inflatable robot and a young prodigy. Scott Adsit provides the voice for Baymax the robot, while Ryan Potter voices Hiro, the young boy who gets a group of his friends together to be heroes. You might see trailers for this film as it comes out on DVD and BluRay on 25th May.
